Serolod, the artistic moniker of Dolores Mavridou, is a contemporary artist whose oil paintings explore the profound interconnectedness of all things, drawing inspiration from Einstein’s theory of general relativity to create artworks that draw on digital and physical realities. Her practice stands out for its transformation of digitally manipulated imagery into tactile, richly textured paintings that challenge the viewer’s perception of reality and connection.
Born in Greece in 1997, Serolod (Dolores Mavridou) studied Fine and Applied Arts at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where she earned an Integrated Master’s Degree in November 2021. Her early fascination with photography and digital editing was shaped by growing up in a generation immersed in technology, a theme that continues to inform her artistic approach. Currently based in London, she is completing her Painting MA at the Royal College of Art, expected to graduate in August 2024.
Serolod’s contemporary art practice is defined by her innovative process: she begins with digital photographs, alters them using editing software to degrade and transform the original image, and then meticulously translates these digital prototypes into oil paintings. Her works are a meditation on perception, colour, and the mutable nature of reality, often featuring uncanny colour palettes and textures that evoke both digital and organic forms.
Each artwork starts as a photograph, which Serolod digitally manipulates, seeking out unexpected colour harmonies and allowing the image to degrade—a process she compares to ‘the pixels getting burned’. This digital destruction becomes the foundation for her paintings, as she recreates the unique textures and forms in oil, pushing the boundaries of what can be rendered by hand versus by machine.
Her paintings consistently explore the interplay between skin and environment, the creation and destruction of images, and the illusion of boundaries—inviting viewers to consider the infinite connections between people, objects, and the universe. The use of dust and fragmented effects in her works further reinforces the idea of a unified, transcendent reality.

She begins with photographs, digitally manipulates them to achieve unique colour and texture effects, and then translates these images into oil paintings, often emphasising the breakdown and reconstruction of visual information.
Serolod is inspired by Einstein’s theory of general relativity and seeks to visualise the invisible connections between all things. Her process intentionally degrades digital images before reconstructing them in paint, highlighting the tension between destruction and creation.
The name ‘Serolod’ is pronounced ‘SEH-roh-lod’.
