Trinh Tuan Biography

Trinh Tuan was born in Hanoi, in 1961. He completed his BA at the Hanoi Industrial College of Fine Art in 1985, his MA at Hanoi Institute of Fine Art in 2000.

His work is mostly figurative lacquer painting, where a single painted figure can bring forth feelings of loneliness, sadness, or happiness and love. Often his paintings show couples with warm feelings for each other - or the opposite.

Tuan has exhibited abroad several times, in countries such as Japan (1996, 2000, 2002), China (1996, 2005), Germany (1997, 2004), Singapore (1997, 2000, 2001), Denmark (1998, 1999, 2000, 2007), France (1998), Argentina (1999), Laos (1999), Australia (1999), USA (1999), Thailand (1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006), Israel (2000, 2005), Netherlands (2000, 2001), Taiwan (2000, 2004, 2006), Hong Kong (2002), Italy (2004), Malaysia (2005, 2009), UK (2006), Korea (2007, 2008) and India (2009). His paintings are, amongst others, in the collection of HRH the Crown Prince of Norway and the collection of the National Art Gallery of Malaysia. Note- lacquer paintings have a unique richness in colour and a lustre, which cannot be done justice in photographs.
