William Menzies Gibb Biography

William Menzies Gibb was the son of Canterbury (South Island, New Zealand) artist, John Gibb.

Working in his studio and plein air he painted in a traditional style the landscapes of the Canterbury region. He is noted for his better works which capture the atmosphere and climate of that region.

Menzies Gibb studied at the National Gallery School, Melbourne (1977-1879), exhibiting with the Canterbury Society of Arts, Christchurch, New Zealand (1882-1922).

His work is held in the collection of the Christchurch Art Gallery, New Zealand.
