Anna Park Brings Her ‘Cheeky’ Work to Lehmann Maupin

Korean American artist Anna Park—known for her unrestrained depictions of identity construction, power, and the female image in the contemporary age—is the latest to join global gallery Lehmann Maupin.

Borrowing from the visual language of advertising, film, and comics, her drawings are often described as sardonic, humorous, and, in the artist’s words, ‘cheeky’.

Lehmann Maupin will bring a new work by Park to this week’s Art Basel Hong Kong (28–30 March 2025), titled Sweet Talk (2025)—a black-and-white drawing with a small square at the centre depicting a woman in white with her legs crossed, resting one hand on a piece of furniture. A line of text, blending into the black and grey stripes in the background, reads, ’THIS IS A COMPUTER?’

Park’s first solo exhibition with the gallery’s London space will open in 2026, which will also be her solo debut in the United Kingdom.

Born in 1996 in Daegu, South Korea, Park has lived an itinerant life, living for a time in New Zealand before moving with her family to Redondo Beach, California, then Salt Lake City, Utah.

In 2015, the artist began studying illustration and animation at the Pratt Institute, but dropped out after two years and enrolled at the New York Academy of Fine Art, from which she graduated in 2020.

Following her debut New York solo show, Pluck Me Tender at Half Gallery in 2021, Park’s works were collected by major U.S. institutions including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami.

She went on to have solo exhibitions at BLUM Tokyo and Los Angeles; SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah, Georgia; and Art Gallery of Western Australia in Perth, where she showed 15 new charcoal and ink works on paper created specifically for her major solo exhibition, Look, look. Anna Park. —[O]
