The fifth edition of Berlin art festival Hallen takes place at Wilhelm Hallen, a former iron-foundry in the north of the city, from 7 to 15 September 2024.
Events at the opening weekend will include a voguing contest orchestrated by Haus of Telfar and House of Juicy Couture and performances by artist and musician Casey Spooner.
Hannover-based institution Kestner Gesellschaft will present the project derived from Spooner's run for U.S. President during the last election, titled SPOONER2020.
Kestner Gesellschaft's director, Adam Budak, said, 'Running parallel to the current U.S. presidential campaign, Spooner's quasi-political, larger than life extravaganza offers an alternative to the universe of fake leadership and abuse of power.'
'Tragicomic at its core, it is a travesty of values and beliefs, a wishful prophecy of another, better world, a parodic proposal of an uttermost urgency and relevance, theatrically set up in Wilhelm Hallen industrial ruin in transition,' he added.
Other participating institutions include time-based art organisation Fluentum, which will show films from their collection, and Art Collection Telekom, which will return for a third time and present a large-scale work by Nedko Solakov and an installation by Iza Tarasewicz.
In collaboration with the Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art, HK-Art Gallery will present an exhibition of young Armenian artists, while Private collection Spaced Out will show works by 22 artists from Southern Africa.
Together with Berlin-based Peres Projects, Air de Paris will present a large-scale outdoor work by Dorothy Iannone, and Düsseldorf gallery Van Horn will show a specially conceived work by Anys Reimann.
Other galleries participating in Hallen 05 include Sies + Höke, Sprüth Magers, and Esther Schipper. —[O]
