Atlanta Art Fair‘s organisers, Art Market Productions (AMP), have announced a selection of the 60 galleries participating in the inaugural edition from 3 to 6 October 2024.
The event is shaping up as a grass-roots regional fair with strong participation from Atlanta and elsewhere in the South, along with a few galleries from the coasts and abroad. For several galleries, it will be their first art fair.
Atlanta galleries taking part include Alan Avery Art Company, Maune Contemporary, Spalding Nix Fine Art, and Day & Night Projects, who show Timothy Short, whose painting Noah (2024) is pictured top.
Those visiting from surrounding states include Birmingham’s Scott Miller Projects, Lake Worth’s Steidel Contemporary, Greensboro’s Lucky Fish Gallery, and Sheet Cake Gallery from Memphis.
Joining from farther afield are Los Angeles galleries Luis De Jesus and Residency Art Gallery, New York’s M. David & Co. and Spanierman Modern, South Korea’s Gallery Tableau, Colombia’s Galeria Baobab, and Finland’s Makasiini Contemporary.
The full list of participating galleries will be released at a later date.
Artistic Director Nato Thompson will shape the fair’s programming, alongside local guest curators Lauren Jackson Harris and Karen Comer Lowe, Harris, co-founder of Black Women in Visual Art, will curate a group exhibition spotlighting five Georgia-based artists.
Lowe, Curator in Residence at Spelman College Museum of Fine Art, will present works by Atlanta artists Navin Norling and Pam Longobardi, who make innovative use of found objects.
‘It was pivotal to us to collaborate with Atlanta-based curators who are deeply embedded within the city’s art scene and who can respond to the pressing needs of the arts community,’ Thompson said.
Atlanta Art Fair has also partnered with over 30 cultural institutions, with the High Museum of Art acting as Lead Institutional Partner. Some—including Art Papers, Dashboard Co-op, and Millennium Gate Museum Atlanta—will have dedicated booths at the fair. —[O]
