Maru Quiñonero presents “LA EXTRANJERA”(THE FOREIGNER), her first exhibition in Murcia.
From May 2 to July 26, 2025, at the Almudí Palace.
“Fifteen years ago, I left Murcia—the moment I decided to change my life and begin my artistic career. With this exhibition, I return to where it all began. In this new series, I experiment with color, layered painting, endless transparencies, acrylic and pencil sharing the same surface, precise and enclosed compositions... all wrapped in titles that speak of what surrounds me: songs I’ve listened to onrepeat, words that fall into my head from who knows where, treasures from my studio...”
“LA EXTRANJERA”, which revolves around Diotima—the only female character in Plato’s Symposium—is curated by Noelia Ibáñez and Miriam Huéscar. The exhibition marks the artist’s debut in the region, following a successful international career with exhibitions in New York, London, Taipei, Hong Kong, and Mexico. The show will also include a parallel public program featuring friends of the artist who are prominent in Murcia’s cultural scene.
The City Council of Murcia has included the opening of LA EXTRANJERA as part of the WARM Festival week, with additional support from Estrella de Levante, reinforcing their commitment to cultural experiences in the Region of Murcia.
“If life has any meaning, it is through the contemplation of absolute beauty.”—Diotima, The Foreigner from Mantinea.
I feel colours in words, mainly in some letters in particular, that’s why I work with colour in an emotional manner. I cannot imagine doing it any other way. It is a language of my own.
