The programming at the Experimenter Outpost in Alipore Museum, Kolkata began in November 2025 with Sohrab Hura’s solo A Winter Summer, which marked the India debut of two seminal bodies of work by the artist—Snow and The Song of Sparrows in a Hundred Days of Summer. Reflecting on the transition of snow in Kashmir and the scorching summer in Barwani, Madhya Pradesh. Both series considered two fundamentally different social, economic, and political landscapes through the unravelling of extreme seasons. Previous programming at Experimenter Outpost (now TRI Art) included Soumya Sankar Bose’s projects Let’s Sing an Old Song in Kolkata in 2019 and Where the Birds Never Sing in the Sundarbans in 2021.

For more than a decade Experimenter has rooted itself in Kolkata, a city which it calls home and from its two spaces, has expanded its vision of a contemporary, global visual arts program. Its third space, Experimenter – Colaba, established in 2022, marked the commitment of its discursive programming to Mumbai, a city that in turn represents the diverse pluralities of the region. As it takes a new step in opening a fourth space, Experimenter Outpost in Alipore Museum, the gallery hopes to expand the scope of Experimenter’s multi-disciplinary programming and the practices of its artists within the deep cultural landscape of the city.

Experimenter Outpost in Alipore Museum will program both solo and group shows by international and locally based artists—working across diverse mediums including sculpture, performance, painting, film, photography. The programming will further incorporate music lectures, salon style workshops, discussions, community gatherings among other activations.
