Jae-Eun Choi will deliver a speech as part of Meetings on Architecture, a program being held for the 15th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia (hereafter referred to as the Architecture Exhibition). Reporting from the Front is the official title of the Architecture Exhibition curated by Director Alejandro Aravena. Meetings on Architecture is a program of events that builds on the themes and case studies presented at the Architecture Exhibition. This program provides an opportunity to discuss the ideas and sources of inspiration of the architects and artists in the exhibition by participating in monthly meetings as panelists. Both the artists and audience have the opportunity to discuss contemporary architecture, exploring recent developments in the field and fulfilling the Biennale’s objective of sharing knowledge and experience.
Jae-Eun Choi will participate in the November program, the final panel before the closing date of the 15th Architecture Exhibition, which ends on November 27, 2016. This important event marking the end of a critically successful exhibition will be moderated by Paolo Baratta and Alejandro Aravena, the President and Director of the Biennial, respectively. The program will provide an opportunity to frame all the issues covered over the six months of the 15th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia.
The central theme of the Biennial is CONFLICT and Jae-Eun Choi was invited as a main panelist to help understand this significant theme. Meetings on Architecture includes Choi’s project 庭園 of 夢 / Dreaming of Earth DMZ (Demilitarized Zone), a visionary proposal that aims to overcome the division of North and South Korea by creating a park along the demilitarized zone. Other panelists include the Sri Lankan architect, Milinda Pathiraja, Manuel Herz, an artist whose work confronted issues around refugee camps in the Western Sahara, Eyal Weizman from the London-based Forensic Architecture team, and Robert Jan van Pelt, who exhibited an architectural reproduction of Auschwitz titled The Evidence Room.
