Wilhelmus Ruifrok was born in Den Hague, the Netherlands, 1952. He immigrated to New Zealand where became a known as a 'visionary painter', referencing Rembrandt, da Vinci and Vermeer in his works. His interest in metaphysics is expressed in a close study of the human body and in intense lighting. His paintings also explore the Golden Section, a mathematic formula for beauty and harmony, and often draw on biblical narratives.
