Marianne Morild Biography

Marianne Morild’s paintings and installations describe unknown and undescribed surroundings. Her works are informed by various kinds of maps including baroque-period or contemporary seismic maps used for oil exploration.

Shambala (2020), one of Morild’s works included in Taipei Biennial 2020, is an oil painting depicting what evokes a land-sea geological cross-section in the midst of an explosion. Set against a black background, seemingly floating, it could be interpreted as fragments of suspended landscapes, ‘torn’ from their ground.
