Son seeks to make three-dimensional paintings combined with built-in LED lighting system, and a kinetic element of many layered polycarbonate bulletproof glass. Bongchae presents a ‘dreamlike landscape’ that arouses a feeling of spatio-temporal depth through the use of natural scenes that exude an atmosphere of lyrical emotion in oriental painting styles and LED lighting control effects. Due to the visual effect by skillfully matching up the traditional painting with the new material of cutting-edge technology, the audience tends to overlook the contents of Son’s paintings, which actually reveal the historical wounds of the country’s landscape.

Son’s love of humanity and deep interest in the relationship between society and mankind come from this land.
As soon as he graduated from University, he flew to New York to study art at the Pratt Institute. When he was invited to the 2nd Gwangju Biennale with his work Invisible Sight, he was launched to instant stardom at the age of 30. His monumental kinetic installations were covered by global media channels like CNN, BBC, NHK, etc. His work is characterized by his challenging and experimental attitude, made with insightful creativity.
Bongchae is regarded today as a critically acclaimed installation artist with a unique pictorial language. His notable series Migrants has been internationally exhibited in New York, Miami, Basel, Berlin, Paris, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Seoul and other cities.
