Sonia Gomes Biography

Brazilian artist Sonia Gomes utilizes fabric, thread, and found objects to create multi-dimensional biomorphic sculptures and structures.  Through these media Gomes draws from her heritage of Caetanópolis, a center of the textile industry in Brazil, to reinterpret the past histories of her materials, which are both found and gifted to the artist.  The resulting objects reflect both the rich history of Brazil, as well as the personal, and sometimes autobiographical, history of the artist, her family, and loved ones.
