William Boissevain studied at L’Académie des Beaux Arts, Paris and the Central School of Arts and Crafts, London; he emigrated to Australia in 1949, settling in Western Australia. Boissevain is respected for his affirmative imagery and skills as a portrait and landscape painter.
He was awarded an OBE in 1978 for his services to the advancement of art, and has won numerous other awards including the Rubenstein portrait prize in 1961. Boissevain is represented in collections of the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, Art Gallery of WA, Premier's Department Perth, Orion Bank London and Hong Kong, Alcoa Ltd., The Homes a Court Collection, Burswood Management Corporation, etc., and many private collections.
