Centre Pompidou Acquires Works by 15 Chinese Artists

On 9 October Centre Pompidou launched its first survey of contemporary Chinese art since Alors, la Chine? in 2003.

The exhibition ⽬ China, A New Generation of Artists is a collaboration with the West Bund Museum supported by Chanel.

The exhibition features recent work by Chinese artists born from the late 1970s to the early 1990s, including Chen Wei, Yu Ji, and Cui Jie.

Other participating artists include Wan Yang, Qiu Xiaofei, and Lu Yang.

Chanel’s support for the exhibition extends to the museum’s acquisition of works by Chinese artists.

Fifteen Chinese artists will enter the Centre Pompidou’s permanent collection for the first time, adding to the 58 Chinese artists—representing around 150 works created since 1976—already held in the museum’s collection.

Yana Peel, Global Head of Arts & Culture at Chanel, said, ‘with these key acquisitions, we are helping expand the museum’s permanent collection of Chinese contemporary artists by over 20%, including the significant addition of seven women artists.’ —[O]
