David Zwirner gallery this week announced that it will represent Vancouver-based artist Steven Shearer in partnership with Galerie Eva Presenhuber.
The announcement was made shortly before the opening of Working From Life, a solo show of Shearer's work at Galerie Eva Presenhuber gallery in Zurich from 4 September to 16 October.
The two galleries will collaborate on a monograph of Shearer's paintings that will be published in 2022. David Zwirner will present an exhibition of new works by Shearer in New York in 2023.
'While he is best known for his idiosyncratic paintings that conjure Neue Sachlichkeit, amongst many other often contradictory references, I am also very interested in the surprising range of his practice that encompasses a variety of media and approaches,' David Zwirner said in a statement.
'Eva has done an extraordinary job championing his work and we are delighted to collaborate with Galerie Eva Presenhuber to introduce Steven's work to our global audience,' he said.
'I have been an admirer of Steven Shearer since first encountering his work at Colin de Land's American Fine Arts, Co. in the 1990s, and it has been a privilege to represent him and work on many significant exhibitions together since 2002,' said Eva Presenhuber.
'I am glad and excited to have found a partner in David Zwirner to support this outstanding artist in all aspects of his career,' she said.
Zwirner also signed Katherine Bernhardt and Portia Zvavahera over the northern summer.
Among other recent moves, Stephen Friedman Gallery signed Jeffrey Gibson, Gagosian grabbed Jim Shaw, and Haley Josephs is now represented by Almine Rech. —[O]
