Xue Tan Seeks ‘New Possibilities for Collaboration’ as Shanghai Biennale Co-Curator

News Kitty Scott Named Chief Curator of 15th Shanghai Biennale Sam Gaskin

Xue Tan, chief curator and head of programme and exhibitions at Munich’s Haus der Kunst, is ‘honoured’ to join the artistic team for the 15th edition of the Shanghai Biennale.

Tan will organise the exhibition, Does the flower hear the bee? (8 November 2025–31 March 2026), with chief curator Kitty Scott and co-curator Daisy Desrosiers.

Tan said the exhibition presents ‘an opportunity to advance ongoing dialogues with artists and institutions across the region and internationally’.

Curators Long Yitang and Zhang Yingying, both selected from PSA’s Emerging Curators Project, will also contribute to the exhibition’s realisation.

Andrea Lissoni, artistic director at Haus der Kunst, said the Hong Kong writer and curator has a ‘deep knowledge and experience on the Asian region’ and transdisciplinary practices.

In recent years, Tan has curated solo presentations by Francis Alÿs, Cao Fei, and Pan Daijing, among others, and has led curatorial projects with the Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt and the Center for Curatorial Studies of Bard College in New York.

Desrosiers is an art historian and chief curator of The Gund at Kenyon College. She has worked with artists such as Theaster Gates, Christine Sun Kim, Ming Smith, and Joan Jonas.

Launched in 1996, the Shanghai Biennale is the first international biennial of contemporary art in mainland China. Since 2012, it has been organised by the Power Station of Art. —[O]
