Catherine Liu is professor of film and media studies at the University of California, Irvine. She is the author of Virtue Hoarders: The Case Against the Professional Managerial Class (2021) and The American Idyll: Academic Anti-Elitism as Cultural Critique (2011), and has published widely on critical theory, art criticism, psychoanalysis, and Left historiography. Her forthcoming book Traumatized: the New Politics of Suffering will be published in 2026 by Verso.
