A gentle fluidity seeps through the draughtsmanship of painter Jake Grewal. His solo show at London’s Thomas Dane Gallery, entitled Now I Know You I Am Older, includes large oils on canvas, as well as small charcoal works featuring ethereal landscapes inhabited by shadowy, half-hidden figures. The young artist’s intuitive use of colour and subtle hint of abstraction make for a divine viewing experience.

The Thomas Dane show follows on from his two-person show at Jhaveri Contemporary in Mumbai with the Ceylonese photographer Lionel Wendt earlier this year, in which Grewal showed depictions of figures in the woods in oil on canvas and charcoal drawings.

Grewal’s work is also currently showing at Michael Werner Gallery in Mayfair, London, as part of the group exhibition Interior until 4 February 2023.

Now I Know You I Am Older runs until 28 January 2023.
