The 13th Seoul Mediacity Biennale, Séance: Technology of the Spirit, takes over SEMA | Seoul Museum of Art and partner venues across the city from 26 August to 23 November 2025. The exhibition brings together artists, such as Nam June Paik, Hilma af Klint, Park Chan-kyong, and Rudolf Steiner, whose works have drawn on mystical, occult, and spiritual traditions.
At the heart of the 13th edition is the idea that these alternative ‘technologies’ challenge the speed-driven, rational systems of capitalist modernity, offering ways to resist and reshape the political and intellectual forces that influence our lives. Conceived as an “exhibition-as-séance,” the Biennale looks to the long history of reaching beyond waking reality, showing how such encounters have reshaped artistic methods and forms of expression.
