The booth builds a narrative that questions the boundaries between illusion and reality, the distinction between objective versus subjective, delving into how these are interpreted.

They were real and they were sweet but also hideous; like watching a movie you don’t like, but somehow reality is worse; so you stay.

In 1955, Julio Cortázar published “La noche boca arriba” a short story that arises from the impetus of the Argentine writer to dip his feet into one of the questions that most tormented, aka inspired, artists throughout his time: the veil that separates reality from dreams.

In a hospital bed, the protagonist of the story wakes up disoriented, and it is on this bed where the color, thickness, and even the smell of the aforementioned veil are questioned.

Understanding the raison d’être behind the work of the artists, it is through this story, as an excuse, that we propose a reflection about the visual connection between the nature of reality and the fragility of human perception. A real-time narration of a dreamlike state. Nina, on one hand, is responsible for providing the inner reality of escaping into our interior as a defense mechanism, while Sune, on the other hand, represents the daydream, the colors, the almost surreal organic shapes.

The booth is a technically virtual realm brought into reality, a demonstration of how and where we escape from the contemporary reality that surrounds us. For better or for worse, how we seek refuge and escape from our surroundings, whether out of fear of being overwhelmed or out of avoidance of the feeling of alienation or displacement. The feeling of being trapped between different realities and disconnected from one’s own echoes in the work of both artists.

NADA is Cortázar’s hospital bed, where anything can happen. Outside, beyond the glasswindows, nothing matters. Or it does, but as a selfish and desperate way of seeking comfort,we will pretend it doesn’t, and keep embracing colorful dancing human-like figureens.
