P21 is pleased to present Fahrettin Örenli Nature of Me as the first exhibition of 2018. The exhibition features diverse works by the interdisciplinary artist encompassing poetry, drawings, video, sound and photography. Under the title ‘Nature of Me’, Örenli investigates the relationship of humans as a social construct to their urban surroundings and to nature. Örenli, who sees the cities as giant organic living structures, questions how social structure is transformed through the experience of contemporary phenomena such as globalism, migration, and neoliberalism.
Fahrettin Örenli (b.1969, Pertek, Turkey) pays attention on the border, having been born between two different Turkish races, living two different countries of Netherlands and Turkey. Örenli studied at Gerrit Rietveld Academie (1998) and continued his study at the Rijksakademie Van Beeldende Kunsten (2001). He had residences in several places such as MMCA Residency Changdong, Seoul (2017); Platform Garanti (SALT) in Istanbul (2006-07), and the ISCP New York. In Amsterdam, Örenli was awarded Royal Painting Prize (2000) and the ABN AMRO Art Prize (2004). Örenli recently held a solo exhibition at Art Sonje Center, and showed at diverse international institutions including the Museo de Antioquia, Medellín/Colombia, Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam, and Istanbul Modern. His works are included in collections of the Vehbi Koc Foundation, ABN-AMRO, De Heus-Zomer, AMC Art Collections.

P21 was established in 2017 by Soo Choi. Located in Itaewon district, a cultural hub in Seoul, the gallery opened with an inaugural exhibition by Choi Jeong Hwa and continues to promote compelling and original examples of international contemporary art. P21 is known for its unique exhibition space with two separate facades, respectively named P1 and P2, that enable artists to create site-specific works.
