This year at Art Basel Miami Beach Sadie Coles HQ will present a group of works by gallery artists at Booth B23.
Alex Da Corte's frieze-like twenty-eight feet long 'Cel Painting' will be the central feature of this year's booth. The Last House on The Left (2022) references a now painted-over mural on the windowless exterior of Jo Skymer Lighting, a lighting store in Pennsauken, New Jersey, only a short distance from where Da Corte grew up. The work was shown earlier this year at Da Corte's solo exhibition The Street at the Rosenwald-Wolf Gallery, University of the Arts, Philadelphia.
Urs Fischer's presentation will include a selection of paintings and cast sculptures from a new body work recently displayed at the artist's solo exhibition, Flea Circus, at the gallery's St James's location in London. Fischer's latest canvases are a shift in scale for the artist whereby the painted surface is coated with exposure emulsion to receive ghostly family photos, resulting in a surprising unpredictability for both the artist and viewer. In addition, two sculptures will feature, each centring the artist's spirit animus, a cat, as the subject, embodying a playful charm whilst challenging physical logic.
Isabella Ducrot, the most recent addition to the gallery, will show a collection of works on paper from her ongoing 'Pots' series, alongside a continuation of her Tendernesses which depict voluptuous figures meeting in an erotic embrace. Made on sheets of handmade paper and thin cotton, Ducrot's small and large still-life paintings reflect the artist's enduring interest in pattern, block printing and collage.
The gallery will also present Wilhelm Sasnal's painting, Melon, exhibiting the artist's tendency to capture still life in a reductive manner – free of extraneous detail, yet charged with emotive potential. The artist's major solo exhibition, Under the Asphalt, is currently on view at Longlati Foundation, Shanghai, until 10 January 2024 (read more).
New works by Georgia Gardner Gray and Jordan Wolfson will also be debuted. Wolfson's solo presentation, Body Sculpture, will be on view concurrently from 08 December 2023 at the National Gallery of Australia until 28 April 2024 (read more).
The booth will feature works by artists including Uri Aran, Darren Bader, Alvaro Barrington, Alex Da Corte, Isabella Ducrot, Urs Fischer, Georgia Gardner Gray, Lucia Laguna, Jim Lambie, Laura Owens, Raymond Pettibon, Seth Price, Richard Prince, Ugo Rondinone, Borna Sammak, Wilhelm Sasnal, Katja Seib, Daniel Sinsel, Ryan Sullivan, Martine Syms and Jordan Wolfson.
