Press Release

Ames Yavuz is pleased to present Common Wealth, a curated group exhibition that examines vocabularies of ownership and power. The artists help us deconstruct the fictions of a 'common wealth', offering alternative origin stories and new futures for the myths of nationhood. The exhibition spotlights iconic works that offer irreverent juxtapositions, pointed questions and moving stories of survival and reclamation.

The exhibition includes works by Abdul Abdullah (b.1986, Australia), Brook Andrew (b.1970, Wiradjuri and Ngunnawal/Australia), Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan (b.1965 and 1962, Philippines), Fiona Foley (b.1964, Badtjala/Australia), Guido Maestri (b.1974, Australia) Pierre Mukeba (b.1995, Democratic Republic of the Congo) and Vincent Namatjira OAM (b.1983, Western Aranda/Australia).
