Cédric Maridet is a French artist based in Hong Kong. His work explores the act of listening, collecting and archiving as a departure point for a possible reinterpretation of knowledge to construct alternative landscapes in the forms of video, installations, photography, sound compositions, and works on paper. His works are presented internationally through residencies (Asia Art Archive), group and solo exhibitions (Blindspot Gallery, Art in General, Tate Modern, Para/Site, 2P Contemporary). Maridet studied literature and sociolinguistics in Paris VII University, and holds a Phd in Media Arts (City University of Hong Kong).
He was awarded Prize of Excellence in the Hong Kong Art Biennial 2005, Gold Award in Media Arts category at the 19th IFVA, and HKADC’s media artist of the year in 2014. He has participated in several residencies (like in Asia Art Archive, The Arctic Circle, Mamori ArtLab), conferences (Rijeka Contemporary Art Museum, EMF-EMS 2011 conference in New York University, MediaArtHistories Conference 2019), and lecture performance. His writings have been published in three books on sound (Around, soundpocket 2011, Fractured Scenes: Underground Music-Making in Hong Kong and East Asia, Palgrave Macmillan, 2021) and on curating (Who Cares? 16 essays on curating in Asia, Para/Site, 2010).
He currently holds the position of Associate Professor and Director of the Research Postgraduate Programme at the Academy of Visual Arts (School of Creative Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University)__and he is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of soundpocket, a non-profit organisation promoting sound art and culture based in Hong Kong.
