Danny Frommer completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts, majoring in painting with the ANU, Canberra in 2002, and has also completed studies in Cabinet Making and Engineering. He has exhibited for over 12 years in venues including Canberra Contemporary Art Space, Utopian Slumps, Rearview Gallery and Gertrude Contemporary Art Space. Recent solo exhibitions include, Fluffy Transmission, Craft Victoria (2011), A Million Bucks, Utopian Slumps, (2012), Instruments & Machines, RMIT Firstsite, (2014). Frommer dissembles and reassembles machines using processes and techniques affiliated with craft, installation and painting as well as the construction industry, mechanical engineering and methods of museum display. He references themes concerning the body and ideas around popular culture, art theory, knowledge systems and the dissemination of energy. Frommer utilises a trash-aesthetic to create his contraptions, with materials often found and recycled. What results is a wry simulacrum that exposes the fallible and dysfunctional qualities of machines but also takes on a revised meaning, a new non/function and a sardonic twist.
