Jeong Zik Seong was born in 1976, Seoul, and has earned a Masters degree in painting at the Fine Art department of Seoul National University. His work revolves around walking the streets of Seoul, and collecting pictures of building structures and forms to reconstruct them into a dreamy city illustration. Any sort of isthmus-like depictions have been excluded. Instead, with the expulsion of a few basic requisites and expansion of the rest, an ‘abstract’ city landscape is created. Jeong Zik Seong’s city landscapes describe a fabricated world which has kept its roots on reality, whilst identifying the frontal pictorial properties, and embodying them in the heritage of modernism in painting, which places high importance on the value of surfaces.
