Mu Lei (穆磊) is a Chinese painter and multimedia artist born 1984 in Jiangsu Province, China. Having graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Chongqing's Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 2007, Mu is currently based in Beijing as a professional artist. His works often create a de-rationalized version of reality, featuring sensual and enigmatic figures that are rich in detail and movement. Mu Lei’s works have been featured in a range of publications in China and abroad, including Harper's Bazaar Art, Vogue, Architectural Digest, and Newsweek. Mu Lei has produced work in conjunction with notable brands such as Audi, Estée Lauder, and Nike, and notable exhibitions include Future Pass (54th Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition, Venice, Italy, and Wereldmuseum, Rotterdam, The Netherlands), Fables and Theatreality (Asian Art Piers, New York, United States), and the Animamix Biennial (Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai). Mu Lei’s fall 2015 exhibition Wonderment at Art+ Shanghai Gallery will mark his first solo exhibition in Shanghai.
