Grammar of Extension is the title of Prudencio Irazábal’s second solo show at Pelaires Gallery. The exhibition will commence on 18 December and will remain open until 10 March 2021.
In this series of works, which began in 2020, the artist proposes a dialogue that seeks a related surface in the body, capable of being perceived as an extensive intimacy and being explored from side to side with the broad gestures of painting. His works develop conceptually from his research into the possibilities of deconstruction and materialisation of chromatic thought, which the artist began in the early 1990s.
Prudencio Irazábal (Puentelarrá, 1954) lives and works in Madrid, after having spent more than twenty years in New York. He is one of the most important artists in Spanish painting today. His characteristic works are the result of a constant research into the pictorial language in terms of irreducible facts. Light and colour are at the centre of his creations.
2017 was the year of his first solo exhibition at Pelaires Gallery, entitled Tide Marks. Since then, his work has been part of the projects that the Gallery has presented at ARCO, ZONA MACO in Mexico and ARCO Lisboa.
