Richard Dunn Biography

Richard Dunn is an artist, born in Sydney. He studied architecture at UNSW, and painting at the Royal College of Art, London. He lived in Europe from 1966–76, and New York 1984–85 as a fellow of the International Studio Program P.S.1 MOMA, New York. He was guest professor at the National Academy of Fine Art, Oslo, in 2000 and at Kunstakademie Dusseldorf, for a semester in 2003/4, artist-in-residence at the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz in 2000 and is presently External Examiner at Edinburgh College of Art for the Landscape Architecture MFA Art, Space & Nature. He has also published in art journals, catalogues and books. Dunn has taught at SCA since its beginning in 1977, first in painting and film theory, and for 13 years as SCA Director/Dean (until 2001).

Dunn's solo museum exhibitions include Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz, Germany, in 2004 and 2005 and retrospective surveys at the AGNSW, Sydney in 1992 and Monash University Museum of Art in 1994. Recent solo international exhibitions have been at the Künstlerverein Malkasten, Düsseldorf and the Förderverein Kunst der DRK Kliniken, Berlin|Westend, sleeper, Edinburgh and Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi and group exhibitions at Museo D’Arte Moderna E Contemporanea Palazzo Belmonte Riso, Palermo and Tianjin Art Gallery, Tianjin, China and Bonn, Würzburg and Osnabrück, Germany. Dunn has been represented in numerous group exhibitions in Australia, the US, England, France, Germany, China, Japan and Southeast Asia.
