Serkan Özkaya Biography

Serkan Özkaya is a contemporary artist whose art concerns with topics of reproduction and appropriation that typically operates outside of the white cube on a conceptual basis. Serkan Özkaya was born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1973. He holds an M.F.A. from Bard College, New York, and a Ph.D degree in German Language and Literature department at Istanbul University, where he also earned his B.A. and M.A.

His works have been exhibited in many art Institutions, galleries and biennials including Storefront Art and Architecture (New York), 21C Museum (Kentucky), Slag Gallery (NewYork), 1K Projectspace, (Amsterdam), Boots Space (St. Louis), Shanghay & Freemans (New York), Kuenstlerhaus Bethanien (Berlin), MiniGallery (Stockholm), 6th Shanghai Biennial, 7th International Santiago de Chile New Media Biennial, 9th International Istanbul Biennial, City Museum Helsinki & Belgrade Museum of Contemporary Art, Tallinn Museum of Modern Art, White Box, Sparwasser HQ.

In the course of last twenty years Özkaya gave talks, took part in panel discussions, and conducted workshops at numerous academic and artistic institutions including Malmo Art Academy, Rooseum Center for Contemporary Art, London University Goldsmiths College, Bilkent University, Platform Contemporary Art Center, Dulcinea Art Gallery, BeganeGrond (BAK), Charlottenborg Museum, Goteborg University, Valand School of Fine Arts and Helsinki Art Academy.
