STEPHEN TREBILCOCK

b. 1952, Australia
Stephen Trebilcock Biography

Stephen Trebilcock was born in Montacute in the Adelaide Hills, and spent most of his childhood in the small community of Winkie on the River Murray. His works are strongly influenced from his early years living on a fruit block and his love of gardening. Trebilcock is a self-taught painter. Before committing to a full-time career as an artist, he worked as a kitchen hand, fencing contractor and signwriter.

The approach to painting that Stephen has taken is strongly based on his drawing skills, developed over years of careful observation and study.

“As a fourth generation descendent of South Australian orchardists, my paintings draw heavily on influences from the rural environs of fruit blocks, orchards and their traditions.

The subjects of fruits, vegetables and native flora allow me to fill a canvas with organic shapes, colours, and impasto texture to convey my passion.

I take the familiarity of the eye-level view and replace it with various viewpoints, which open up new possibilities for compositions. As a representational artist, painting allows me the opportunity to share my interpretation of this aspect of life with others.”
