Vin Ryan's work has been described as “charting his neighbourhood surrounds and airing some of our dirty laundry.” His work is a very personal attempt to make sense of the urban environment that many of us live in. The raw materials and subject matter for most of his works are banal, minor details of every day existence that he encounters whilst living in the suburbs ofMelbourne- street signs, nature strip trees, footpath graffiti, found hand-written notes, even snippets of overheard conversations can become the starting point for an artwork.
Ryan works primarily in a variety of media including installation, photography, video and sculpture, though in recent years his practice has focused primarily on drawing and the questioning and exploration of the nature of drawing.
