Hyundai Motor Seeks Emerging Media Artists for 6th VH AWARD

Five shortlisted applicants will receive U.S. $25,000 production budgets, online residencies, and exhibitions at leading art institutions.
The organisers of Asia’s leading new media art award are again seeking submissions.
The 6th VH AWARD asks eligible artists to submit proposals to produce screen-based artworks that may include video art, moving images, film, motion graphics, computer animation, gaming, and more.
‘The VH AWARD is globally recognised for its boundless exploration of participating artists from the Asian region, as well as those of Asian descent and diasporas from around the world,’ said Dooeun Choi, Art Director of Hyundai Motor.
‘We eagerly anticipate the active participation of artists who embrace diversity and inclusion in shaping the past, present, and future of Asia,’ she said.
The five finalists will each receive a grant of U.S. $25,000 to produce new artworks and an invitation to participate in an online residency with New York City non-profit Eyebeam.
The recipient of the Grand Prix, who will be announced in June 2025, will receive an additional grant of $25,000.
The artworks created by all five finalists will be exhibited at art institutions around the globe, including the Vision Hall of Hyundai Motor Group in South Korea, the House of Electronic Arts in Switzerland, the Ars Electronica Festival in Austria, and the National Art Council in Singapore.
Finalists will be selected by an international panel of jurors based on their originality and aesthetics, compelling conception and innovation, quality of presentation, and sophisticated employment of technology.
This year’s jury includes Ars Electronica’ Christl Baur, House of Electronic Arts’ Sabine Himmelsbach, Festival X’s Martin Honzik, the Whitworth’s Sook-kyung Lee, and Eyebeam‘s Roderick Schrock.
Past recipients of the VH AWARD include Subash Thebe Limbu, who created a dialogue between two indigenous people from different timelines, and Lawrence Lek who imagined an AI charged with surveillance of the fictional SimBeijing city holding a philosophical discussion with a distinct part of its own intelligence.
