David Zwirner is pleased to announce an exhibition of prints published by Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE), the fine art print publisher founded in 1957 on Long Island that helped shape a postwar printmaking renaissance in the United States. The exhibition will be shown on the second floor of the gallery’s 537 West 20th Street location in New York. Organized in collaboration with ULAE and drawing from its archive as well as private collections, Breakthrough: Prints from ULAE will feature important works by Lee Bontecou, Carroll Dunham, Helen Frankenthaler, Jasper Johns, Marisol, Barnett Newman, Robert Rauschenberg, Larry Rivers, James Rosenquist, Kiki Smith, Terry Winters, and Lisa Yuskavage, among others. Since its origins under the visionary leadership of Tatyana Grosman, ULAE has cultivated an intimate workshop environment where generations of artists and printers have expanded the creative potential of printmaking. Accompanied by archival materials that trace ULAE’s history, the exhibition celebrates its nearly seven decades of continued experimentation and collaboration.
