Press Release

Galatea is pleased to take part in the 15th edition of the ArtRio fair, which takes place from September 10 to 14 at Marina da Glória, in Rio de Janeiro. The gallery presents a selection of works that includes key figures of Brazilian modern and contemporary art, as well as artists who have influenced — or been influenced by — the national scene, spanning from young emerging talents to established names.

The robust list of artists includes Alfredo Volpi, Allan Weber, Angelo de Aquino, Arnaldo Ferrari, Arthur Palhano, Ascânio MMM, Bruno Novelli, Carolina Cordeiro, Dani Cavalier, Edival Ramosa, Estela Sokol, Francisco Galeno, Franz Weissmann, Gabriel Branco, Gabriela Melzer, Georgete Melhem, Ione Saldanha, Israel Pedrosa, Joaquim Tenreiro, Julio Le Parc, Luiz Zerbini, Marilia Kranz, Max Bill, Mira Schendel, Montez Magno, Mucki Botkay, Raymundo Colares, Rubem Ludolf, Sarah Morris, Ubi Bava, and Ygor Landarin.

The selection proposes a dialogue between contemporary art and major strands of 20th-century art, such as concrete art, geometric constructivism, informal abstraction, textile art, and so-called popular art. The temporal breadth of the artists brought together reflects and articulates the conceptual pillars of Galatea’s program: to serve as a point of support and convergence between cultures, time periods, styles, and diverse genres, generating a dynamic friction between the old and the new, the canonical and the non-canonical, the scholarly and the informal.
