About Gow Langsford Gallery

Gow Langsford is a commercial art space committed to fostering and promoting the best contemporary art from New Zealand and abroad. Located directly opposite the Auckland Art Gallery, Gow Langsford Gallery represents over thirty established New Zealand and international artists. Gow Langsford is one of the country’s most established galleries and is widely regarded as its most influential dealer gallery. Alongside a regular and varied exhibition schedule, Gow Langsford is a market leader in works on the secondary market.

From 2008 - 2021 the Gallery also ran a second viewing space on Lorne St which is now permanently closed to the public.

The Gallery’s experienced staff provide comprehensive art collection advice. This service is client-centered and encompasses acquisitions; valuations; restoration and framing advice; investment opportunities and collection management.

Gow Langsford Gallery was established by John Gow and Gary Langsford in a converted gas station in the Auckland suburb of Grey Lynn in 1987 and has developed into one of New Zealand’s most significant dealer galleries. The Gallery celebrated thirty years in business in 2017.

The Gallery has been more than a vocation for both founding Directors who are passionate advocates for the visual arts and committed to the development of the careers of the artists they represent. In 2015, Anna Jackson also became Director of the Gallery. Together the Directors’ dedication has fostered the growth of contemporary art in New Zealand and enabled the careers of many of this country’s most notable artists, such as Judy Millar, John Pule, Max Gimblett, Dick Frizzell and Reuben Paterson. They have actively sought to introduce local audiences to international art, and in turn, international visitors to New Zealand artists. They have hosted one-man shows by Pablo Picasso (1998), Damien Hirst (2010), Bernar Venet (2006 and 2012), Donald Judd (2002), Tony Cragg (2005 and 2011) and Andy Warhol (2013). They have enjoyed success placing works in major collections both in public institutions and private homes, locally and internationally.
