Anton Del Castillo Biography

Anton Del Castillo, born in 1976 in Tondo Manila is currently an assistant professor at the University of the Philippines Integrated School in Quezon City. He received his BFA and MFA degree from the University of the Philippines and has undertaken training in the restoration department of the National Museum of the Philippines. His paintings are composed of oil with metallic leaf, rendered in the style of Byzantine icons, portraying strong allusions on contemporary issues. Prestigious awards he has garnered internationally and locally includes being a finalist in the recent Sovereign Art Contest in Hong Kong, a grand prize winner from the national contest of the Metrobank Foundation in 2003. He has been awarded the Asian Cultural Council and the Sovereign Art Foundation Fellowship to undertake research on byzantine icon painting in American collections and a residency in the International Studio and Curatorial Program New York USA in 2006. Anton had his first solo show at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 2005 and has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Beijing, Hong Kong, New York, Malaysia and Manila.
