Buck Nin Biography

Holding his first solo exhibition in Auckland in 1963, Buck Nin is arguably New Zealand’s first modernist Māori painter. He attended the University of Canterbury (1965-1966), and was influenced by tutor Rudolf Gopas, developing contemporary paintings that referenced traditional Māori motifs.

His work in the collection of Te Papa Tongarewa, Museum of New Zealand.
