After studying at Paris VIII, KIM Chun Hwandeveloped his practice using the collagetechnique with papers initially selected andworked on for his compositions. Influenced by «Dansaekhwa», an artistic movementthat emerged in South Korea in the 1970s, heaccumulates newspapers, magazines, advertisingpapers, and packaging, which he crumples, presses, and then deliberately glues onto wooden panels. He then cuts them to create voluminous, texturedcollages that sometimes remind us of a sea ofimages, in which humanity is submerged.Through his collages, the artist aims to critiquea consumer society blinded, hypnotized, andsaturated by the flow of information, visuals, repre-sentations, and media.
