LAURENCE WILLIAM WILSON
Laurence William Wilson arrived in New Zealand in 1877 from England where he had studied under N. E. Green, author of the Handbook on Landscape. By 1884 was working in Dunedin with George O’Brien where he soon developed an audience for his work.
Wilson was a convential and prodigious painter, particularly admired for his romanticised landscapes of the South Island in both oils and watercolour. His work is held in the Hocken Library, Dunedin and many other New Zealand collections.
