About Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre

The Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC) is a multi-disciplinary artist village and arts centre housed in a converted nine-storey factory estate on Pak Tin Street in Shek Kip Mei, Kowloon. Opened in 2008 as a self-financed registered charity and subsidiary of Hong Kong Baptist University, it was Hong Kong’s first major adaptive reuse of a decommissioned factory into a creative hub and is supported by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, which funded the conversion and naming rights.

Spread over more than 200,000 square feet, JCCAC serves both as an arts village—home to over 100 artists and arts organisations—and as a public arts centre. While most practices are in the visual arts, the tenant mix also includes applied and performing arts, making the building a dense, everyday ecosystem of studios, workshops, rehearsal spaces and small cultural initiatives.

Art, Studios and Programmes

JCCAC provides approximately studio units at affordable rents, reserved in part for emerging artists, across practices such as painting, ceramics, sculpture, photography, multimedia installation, design, music, dance and community art. Supporting facilities include the Jockey Club Black Box Theatre, a two-storey main gallery, smaller exhibition spaces, and a central courtyard ringed by a café, tea house and craft shops that host markets and events.

Throughout the year, the centre organises open-studio weekends, themed festivals, exhibitions and heritage tours that introduce visitors to both the resident artists and the building’s industrial past. During Hong Kong’s March art season—including Art Basel Hong Kong and Art Central—JCCAC often features in official and independent tour programmes, positioning its studios and galleries as a more grassroots counterpoint to the commercial fair halls.
