Art Basel Paris 2025 Unveils the Highlights It Will Show Beneath the Glass Dome
By Elaine YJ Zheng – 28 May 2025, Paris

The fourth edition of Art Basel Paris hopes to reflect the key position the French capital holds in the worldwide art market as it welcomes 203 galleries from 40 countries under the striking glass dome of the Grand Palais.

The fair will take place from 24 to 26 October 2025 with a to-be-announced lineup including 25 first-time exhibitors, and a VIP preview on the two days prior.

Clément Delépine, director of Art Basel Paris, spoke to the ‘exceptional quality’ of this year’s galleries, noting they will reflect Paris’ ‘central role’ in the global art market.

‘I’m struck by the enduring power of Paris as a nexus for creative and intellectual avantgardes,’ Delépine told Ocula. ‘Dozens—if not hundreds—of artists in this edition have strong ties to the city’, he said, citing not only French artists who have spent their entire lives in Paris, but émigrés like American painter Bob Thompson and Korean master Park Seo-Bo.

Now in its fourth year, the fair just last week announced a Qatar expansion. At the same time, it has slowed down in growth, registering a slight increase from the 195 galleries it welcomed last year and a surge from the 156 exhibitors at its inaugural 2022 edition.

The main sector will feature 177 galleries, including 160 returning exhibitors, from respected international dealers like Thaddaeus Ropac, kaufmann repetto, and Kiang Malingue to rising galleries like Document (Chicago/Lisbon) and Nicoletti and seventeen (both London).

Among the nine galleries joining for the first time are Crèvecœur (Paris), 47 Canal (New York), David Nolan Gallery (New York), The Approach (London), and Stevenson (Amsterdam/Cape Town).

Around one third of the exhibitors operate locations in Paris, including long-time exhibitors Mennour and mor charpentier and newcomers like Modern Art and Petrine, quieting French galleries’ original concerns that the international fair would displace the city’s art scene.

The Emergence sector will feature 16 galleries, counting highlights like Blindspot’s presentation of Xiyadie’s erotic paper-cut works, The Pill’s performative installation by Nefeli Papadimouli, and London’s Vardaxoglou Gallery, who will feature British artist Tanoa Sasraku.

Meanwhile, the fair’s public programme will once more be staged in collaboration with leading Parisian cultural institutions like Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, Bourse de Commerce – Pinault Collection, and Lafayette Anticipations. —[O]
