Frieze New York (7–11 May 2025) will feature 67 galleries, including global giants like Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, Pace, and David Zwirner, alongside blue-chip galleries like David Kordansky Gallery, Mendes Wood DM, Victoria Miro, Perrotin, Thaddaeus Ropac, White Cube, and Xavier Hufkens.
At The Shed in Manhattan’s Hudson Yards for a fifth year, seven first-time exhibitors will feature in the fair’s Focus sector, devoted to solo presentations by young galleries featuring emerging and underrepresented artists.
Fresh faces include Champ Lacombe (London/Biarritz), G Gallery (Seoul), King’s Leap and Management (both New York), Public Gallery (London), Voloshyn Gallery (Miami/Kyiv), and Yeo Workshop (Singapore) in this section overseen by New York curator Lumi Tan.
Highlights include Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley‘s treatment of the Black trans experience at Public Gallery and Yeo Workshop’s textile installation by Balinese artist Citra Sasmita, whose exhibition at Barbican Art Gallery in London is on view until 21 April 2025.
Tan was thrilled this year’s Focus section featured an increased international presence, adding that projects on view will demonstrate ‘the imperative role of artists’ in bringing nuance to social narratives.
Notable New York galleries like Canada, Chapter NY, Matthew Marks Gallery, and Tina Kim Gallery will also partake in the fair, alongside international galleries with a local base like Kurimanzutto and Goodman Gallery.
The event comes at a challenging time for Frieze, whose majority share owner, the Endeavor Group, is considering selling the fair’s locations in London, New York, Los Angeles, and Seoul, alongside its magazine and exhibition space in London. —[O]
