Alvaro Barrington Moves from Strength to Strength with New Solo Exhibitions

Alvaro Barrington’s practice has moved from strength to strength in recent years. In 2021 alone, the artist has received five solo exhibitions. This year, Barrington has shown at Tabernacle, London; Sadie Coles HQ, London; Emalin, London; Thaddaeus Ropac, Paris; and Nicola Vassell Gallery, New York. ⁠⁠

At Nicola Vassell Gallery, Barrington’s most recent exhibition, GARVEY 1: BIRTH -The Quiet Storm, explores ‘birth, kin and the notion of being born into the traditions and material conditions of family. It is the first chapter in a four-part ode by the artist to the life and work of Marcus Garvey, a Jamaican national hero, and political activist who founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association in 1914.’⁠⁠

The artist’s exhibition Spider The Pig, Pig The Spider opened on 1 October 2021 at South London Gallery.
