On 22 November, New York gallery Downs & Ross announced its representation of the young Slade School of Fine Art graduate, Tsai Yun-Ju.
Tsai was included in Ocula Advisory’s London Graduates: Five Artists to Watch after spotting her work at the Slade graduate show in June 2022. The Taiwanese artist has produced an array of paintings that ignite a whirlwind of aesthetics. Her frenetic and gestural brushstrokes demonstrate her talent for tuning in to her inner painterly instinct.
The gallery will present the young graduate’s paintings for the first time at the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) in Miami between 30 November–3 December 2022.
Alongside Tsai Yun-Ju’s NADA presentation, Downs & Ross will present the artist’s first solo exhibition with the gallery from 2 February–11 March 2023.
It comes as no surprise that Downs & Ross jumped at the opportunity to represent Tsai. Her large-scale oil paintings feature scrawled gestures of colour that denote the artist’s adept sense of movement. Emotive and verging on feverish, Tsai’s vibrant paintings have an energetic quality that makes for an invigorating viewing experience.
