Shifting between reality and illusion, Katja Seib‘s paintings frame subjects who are based on her family and friends, rendered with surrealistic elements.
Born in Düsseldorf in 1989, Seib completed her MFA at Düsseldorf Kunstakademie in 2016, developing a practice of painting directly onto raw hessian fabric. Her scenes are translated from photos on her phone, thus drawing the medium closer to the technological realm.
Living and working in Los Angeles, Katja Seib’s autobiographical oil paintings are currently on show in the exhibition Old World New Thoughts in London at Sadie Coles HQ for the next couple of weeks.
