Press Release

In a world shaped by speed, distraction and constant digital stimulation, the idea of connection has taken on deeper meaning. Surrounded by noise and endless communication, many long for a quieter, more meaningful relationship with the world. It is within this search for stillness that the landscapes of Nessi Penman find their resonance. Rather than depicting nature, her paintings invite moments of calm awareness, where a deeper connection between human presence and the natural world can be felt.

Through dense layers of impasto oil paint, Penman creates richly textured surfaces that echo the environments that inspire her. Colour builds with tactile intensity, forming landscapes alive with movement and depth. Rather than presenting nature as distant, her work evokes immersion — the viewer feels within the landscape, not apart from it.

Her practice reflects the idea of “forest bathing,” where nature is experienced as atmosphere rather than image. She speaks of an invisible thread connecting all living systems, where, in moments of quiet attention, the boundary between observer and environment softens. Nature becomes not something separate, but something we are already part of.

When the mind slows, colour intensifies, textures sharpen, and the quiet vitality of the landscape emerges. Many meaningful experiences arise in the pauses between activity — spaces of calm, presence and reflection. Through her work, Penman offers a refuge from modern intensity, inviting a return to this natural stillness.

Connection is both the title and the experience — a gentle reminder that beneath the noise, stillness and connection have always been there.
