Per Kesselmar is born in Stockholm in 1960 and studies at the Valand Art Academy in Göteborg from 1984 to 1986 before attending the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm from 1986 to 1990. In 1995 as in 2000 and in 2004 he receives the Baertling grant & National Artists Board, in 2011 an Academy of Fine Arts scholarship and in 2017 the Sten A Olsson grant.
Applying oil paint to different metals in up to forty layers, Kesselmar creates veritable colour spaces with a remarkable depth effect. Kesselmar’s works can be found in public and private collections such as in the Museum of Modern Art Stockholm, Nörrkoping Art Museum, Skövde Art Museum, the Lannan Foundation in Santa Fe and the SAK (Swedish Art Association). During his career to date, the artist has already been awarded with several important scholarships and promotional prizes, the most recent being the famous Swedish Sten A Olsson Kulturstipendiat which enabled him a solo exhibition at Kunstmuseum Göteborg. The artist lives and works in Stockholm.
