Current Plans is a playful alternative art space in Hong Kong founded in 2020 by curator Eunice Tsang. Initially known for occupying a former mah-jong school in Sham Shui Po, the project has since become a roving platform now based largely in Wong Chuk Hang on Hong Kong Island’s south side. It was conceived as an ‘anti-white cube’ space for shows, events and residencies that prize play, intimacy and improvisation over conventional gallery formats.
Working with emerging and mid-career artists from Hong Kong and abroad, Current Plans hosts exhibitions, performances, DJ sets, film screenings, communal dinners and reading groups that often unfold simultaneously. The programme favours cross-disciplinary collaborations and site-responsive projects, with artists invited to treat the space as a testing ground for new work rather than a polished showroom.
Past exhibitions have ranged from group shows exploring nightlife and queer culture to installations that spill into stairwells, rooftops and neighbouring studios. Residencies and invited projects—such as French artist Prosper Legault’s 2026 stay, which transformed the surrounding streets into a temporary stage for text-based interventions—underscore the space’s interest in the social life of the city as much as its interiors. During Hong Kong’s March art season, Current Plans frequently hosts late-night events and collaborative programmes that offer a looser, more informal counterpoint to the atmosphere of Art Basel Hong Kong and Art Central.
Current Plans’ current base is in Wong Chuk Hang, with exact address and opening hours varying by project. Most exhibitions and events are free or low-cost, but capacity can be limited; visitors are advised to check the space’s website and Instagram for up-to-date details on locations, times and how to RSVP.
Current Plans is an alternative non-profit, curator-run art space in Hong Kong that presents experimental exhibitions, residencies and cross-disciplinary events. It emphasises playful, process-driven projects rather than commercial gallery programming.
The space was founded in 2020 by Hong Kong curator Eunice Tsang. Tsang’s background in curating and writing shapes the project’s focus on conceptually sharp yet accessible shows.
Current Plans operates without stable institutional funding and instead relies on the collective efforts of its community. It is sustained through self-organisation by artists, mentors and peers, drawing on DIY culture and working “at the pace of friendship and trust”. Ongoing support comes from individuals who contribute money, skills or labour, enabling the space to stay open and to recognise the work of the creatives involved.
Current Plans operates primarily from a space in Wong Chuk Hang on Hong Kong Island, sometimes extending projects into neighbouring studios or off-site venues. Location details are announced for each exhibition or event.
